Background:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Security Adviser, the direct supervision of the FSCO Gaza the incumbent is a local security assistant who would be working under the direct supervision of and be accountable to the CSA/FSCO. The LSA is accountable to UNDSS through the CSA/FSCO and report to the CSA/FSCO either directly or through the respective FSCOs for all duties assigned.
Description of Responsibilities:
• Communication: Liaising and coordinating with the local government security organisations and/or de facto authorities as required
• Reports and returns: Assisting FSCOs in maintaining the Security Plan for the DS; also assisting in preparing Quarterly Reports and other periodical UNDSS returns; and in maintaining Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) as per plans;
• Analyzing: Assessing the security situation at the duty station and to maintain database of the emerging trends and assisting the CSA/FSCOs in drafting the relevant Security Risk
Assessments
• Operational: Conducting security evaluations and providing advice on security measures for the residences of UN staff and UN offices; Organizing training courses on security issues/awareness and preparedness for the UN staff; wardens and others as required;
• Mandatory briefings and returns: To provide security briefing to new/visiting staff as per the roster; Providing timely information to the CSA/LSA to CSA on updating SIRs database upon approval of the FSCOs;

Ensuring that coordination and liaison with government security organizations is properly handled, explained and conveyed both ways, FSCO’s and other host government personnel being a local of the duty station

Ensuring that the feedback provided to CSA, DSA and FSCO’s is analyzed well as per the understanding of the different variables, ie, language, local area understanding, traditions, etc… is conveyed based on deep analyzing.

Assist CSA, DSA and FSCO’s by enhancing the manpower and experience to operational demands for ensuring the Safety & Security standards is being delivered to all UN personnel through trainings and other operational demands.
5. Function / Expected Results
ensuring staff members are oriented at the start of the assignment/mission of the safety and security polices implemented in the DS through providing a comprehensive Safety and Security briefings to newly arrived staff to the DS, to assist staff mitigate risks upon arrival and during their assignments.
 
 Impact of Results
Based on the key functions and results expected, the impact is expected to have better DSS performance, better clients’ support in providing safety and security related needs, better and effective management of time being a crucial factor in the UN Safety and Security mandate.

Qualifications :
Education:
Secondary Education. Bachelor degree will be an asset.
Experience:
6 years of experience in the relevant field. Prior experience in the UN system and knowledge of UNDSS mandate and UN security management system is highly desirable.
Language Requirements:
Fluency in Both of the English and the Arabic languages.
