Background:
The United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV) jointly with the The Palestinian Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession ( Musawa), are seeking the recruitment of a National UN Volunteer Specialist as per the below specified terms of reference that have been established for the vacancy.
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development, and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers.
In most cultures volunteerism is deeply embedded in long-established, ancient traditions of sharing and support within the communities. In this context, UNV volunteers take part in various forms of volunteerism and play a role in development and peace together with co-workers, host agencies and local communities.
In all assignments, UNV volunteers promote volunteerism through their action and conduct. Engaging in volunteer activity can effectively and positively enrich their understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between themselves and the people in their host community. This will make the time they spend as UNV volunteers even more rewarding and productive.
Musawa The Palestinian Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession, is an NGO that strives for the Rule of Law and the Prevalence of Justice in Palestine by Monitoring the Violations and Non-Compliance to the Law, Documentation and Follow-up, as well as Influencing Policy Legislation, Promoting Public Awareness and Building the Legal Capacity in the Palestinian Society” has identified the following goals and objectives that are essential to accomplish the organization’s mission:  Improvement in the main indicators of justice in Palestine reflected in a decrease of violations and non-compliance to the rule of law, and as monitored and reported by Musawa. On-going review of the Palestinian Legislations and the development of draft legislations ensuring compliance with Internal Law. The Palestinian Society in all of its constituencies is aware of its legal rights and duties with reference to Citizens’ Rights and the presence of the different Codes of Ethics.In order to ensure that Musawa operates efficiently, effectively and in a sustainable mode, Board and Management will build the proper management and financial systems and procedures, and will continuously upgrade them, while attaining the principles of Integrity, Accountability and Transparency.
Description of Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Musawa the UNV volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
 
-          Prepare a list of potential organization and donors that would support the purposes of Musawa from all over the world, to create a network with the concerned organizations, as well as introduce Musawa’s strategies in order to establish future collaborations among Musawa and international organizations and donors. This is a continuous process
-          Organize meetings between the Executive Director of Musawa and the donors engaging in the oPt, and follow up on the outcomes of the meetings and donors
-          Prepare and send the weekly report of Musawa’s weekly activities to the registered participants as well as to allocate additional recipients.
-          Follow up with the current donors that support Musawa, and allocate new donor
-          Proposal writing
-          Prepare and send annual and quarter report to the donors
-          Prepare statement letters, press releases, and official letters according to executive director instructions
-          Obligation to Musawa internal law
 
In addition UNV volunteers are expected to further promote volunteerism and engage in volunteering activities:
 
-          Strengthening their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and taking active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
-          Getting acquainted with and building on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
-          Reflecting on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
-          Assisting with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UNV volunteers;
-          Promoting or advising local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encouraging relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
-          Contributing articles/write-ups on field experiences and submitting them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

Qualifications :
 
-          A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, international development, marketing, communications, or related social science field is required.
-          3 -5 years of relevant experience, preferably within an NGO environment.
-          Must have strong written skills and analytical capabilities, with the ability to write creatively and
-          report accurately, including documents such as success stories, factsheets, press releases, management and maintenance of websites, etc.
-          Must be fluent in English and Arabic (spoken and written)
-          Proven experience in events planning and execution is highly desirable.
-          Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to balance working well in a team environment with initiative, creativity, and independent ability to carry responsibility are also necessary.
-          Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse context are required.
-          Proficiency in Microsoft Windows package
UNV Conditions of Service
The assignment is intended for initial 12 months; the selected candidate will receive a monthly volunteer living allowance (VLA) intended to cover the basic needs and equivalent to $ 870 per month, In addition the selected candidate along with any recognized dependants will be covered under the UNV life, health and permanent disability insurance. The volunteer is entitled and upon satisfactory completion of the 12 months assignment, to the Resettlement Allowance.
