Background:
The UNSCO socio-economic database constitutes a primary source of data used by UNSCO, the UN and the larger donor and diplomatic community in their development and determination of policies at both the local and capital levels and in such for a as the Local Development Forum, the AHLC, the Quartet and the Security Council Briefings. 
 
It is therefore critical that the database be regularly maintained and upgraded as necessary, with the objective of providing timely, reliable and demand driven information to a wide range of partners in oPt to support their own policy and programming decisions.
Description of Responsibilities:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Coordination Unit and the direct supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation officer, the Data Assistant will:

  1. remain informed of all developments in the Palestinian territory related to socio-economic trends, events and developments;
  2. in collaboration with the Coordination Unit Strategic Planning Advisor, work to streamline and improve the socio-economic report
  3. in collaboration with other research staff ensure that the UNSCO socio-economic database remains up-to-date for all indicators, with a special responsibility for collecting data for indicators related to closure and socio-economic indicators for the oPt;
  4. provide daily updates of access developments at the crossings;
  5. support distinct research assignments;
  6. provide data packages for all organizations outside of UNSCO requesting specific data sets from the UNSCO database;
  7. prepare fact sheets and brief information packages for UNSCO’s front office;
  8. provide data for UNSCO reports as required (including for the AHLC, Quartet, Security Council Briefs and ECOSOC report); and perform any other duties as assigned

Qualifications :
Education: High School 
 
Experience:  3-5 years of experience in data collection and entry; Knowledge of socio-economic and access issues in the oPt; Good knowledge of other computer applications, relevant to the post 
 
Language Requirements: Fluency in Arabic and English
